The legwork behind a China purchase

What a China agent actually does on the ground
A China purchase looks simple from the outside: a price, a sample, a reply that says no problem. The work that decides how it actually turns out happens after that, on the ground here — and most of it never shows up in an email.
This is a plain look at what I do in China, day to day. Not principles or promises — the actual legwork behind a purchase, from the first supplier question to the goods leaving the country.

Before any money moves

Most of the early work is filtering. I look at who is actually behind an offer, compare it against other options, and get to a real quote — not the round number from a catalog. Where it matters, I run a pre-check on the supplier: company background, how they communicate, the small signals that say more than a polished sales reply.
This part is quiet and unglamorous, and it is where a lot of later problems are avoided. A supplier price is visible from the start. Supplier reality usually is not.

While the order runs

Once the task is agreed, I handle the purchasing and the payments, and I keep the conversation with the supplier in their own language and context — not word-by-word translation that loses the point. When goods are ready, I run goods checks: photos, reference pictures, video, a look at quantity, condition, packaging, and labelling against what was agreed.
Problems come up in any order — a delay, a wrong spec, a packaging question. I do not step aside when they do. I stay on it and keep the process moving until handover.

Getting the goods out of China

Goods from different suppliers come together at a managed warehouse, where they can be received, checked, stored, and repacked before they move on. From there the path depends on the task: consolidate into one shipment, load a container, or hand off to your forwarder — whole or in parts.
I am not a freight company, and I do not pretend to be one. When export handling and customs clearance from China are needed, I coordinate them and stay accountable for the part that is mine.
